[@]Arnero - Classic Indian Restaurant
When selecting somewhere to eat for lunch you may feel that a restaurant, whose address is listed as NCP Car-Park, may not have the ambience you might be looking for. However, in the case of the recently opened Indian cuisine restaurant Arnero you are going to be surprised.
Located on Sackville Street, Arnero is a purposed built two floor building constructed into side of the afore mentioned NCP Car-Park and you can even secure a discount from your parking fee.
The main restaurant is on the ground floor, while above it is another large space designed to cater for private parties or for use when the restaurant is busy. The restaurant furniture is constructed using sturdy wood and the comfortable chairs are covered with a cheery rainbow effect fabric.
The table settings have printed placemats containing information about Indian cuisine, the health benefits of the spices and even a recipe for Sag Aloo (potatoes in sauce).
Today we where sampling the Arnero Express Lunch menu. The set menu choices are simple either a Vegetarian Platter or a Lunch Meat Platter for £5.99 or £6.99 respectively (at time of writing).
The actual meat and vegetable offerings change almost daily and today the meat option was a Chicken Tikka Masala. The meat platter includes a side dish of the vegetable choice, in this case Sag Aloo, two pieces of Chicken Tiki, a portion of rice, a nan bread, half a papadum and a garnish of salad.
The dish was attractively presented with the side and main in separate bowls placed at each end of a long plate that has the rice and Chicken Tiki in the middle. It is topped off with half a papadum and the nan bread comes in its own basket.
The Chicken Tiki was soft, the Sag Aloo was in a tasty sauce and the Chicken Tiki Masala was fresh and succulent. The accompaniments each added to the taste and experience of eating these flavoursome dishes.
The drinks menu offers a wide selection of soft drinks, wines and beers, including the Cobra beer and ‘Black Sheep Bitter’ brewed in Masham, North Yorkshire.
Arnero’s ‘A la Carte’ menu offers diners a good range of classic Indian dishes including Kababs, Chicken, Lamb, Fish, Prawn curries and even a Duck Chilli. If you are a meat eater then I would recommend trying the Lamb Nihari which is a true melt in the mouth curry, original created in 18th Century Delhi.
You will find the waiting team to be friendly and approachable. They are keen to ensure that you enjoy your time spend with them and that your food is A1.
A nice touch is that after your meal you will be offered a small selection of Indian style small sweets and or seeds. If you read your placemat you will discover these are designed to help with digestion.
I am confident that we will return soon to sample the rest of Arnero’s fare and I think that you are likely to enjoy your visit too.
